although I have quite a way to go before I start my clinical years, I can’t help but have no doubt in what specialty I want to go into as a future physician— pediatrics. working with children has always been a passion of mine. as a former Tae Kwon Do instructor, my day often began with energized kids frolicking around me, advanced to their wobbling legs, copious amounts of questions, and ended with jumping high fives, cheery faces, and possibly a few hugs. not only was I responsible for providing a safe yet challenging environment, but also for leading these young, impressionable minds with assertiveness and passion. I was eternally rewarded when I saw my athletes having a good time, when their hard work led to improvements, or when I saw the appreciation in the faces of the athletes and parents. it was fulfilling to guide these kids both in Tae Kwon Do and in life; however, they have also influenced me. their vibrant spirits and demand for patience motivated me to never lose liveliness or the desire to work hard.
